Where to go in October Half term

Best Place to go in October half term

Missing the summer? Getting ready for winter? Just need to escape? We’ve got you covered!

Top destinations to take the kids in October half term

The back to school and work, post summer blues have kicked in and the summer feels an eternity away. We show you some places to head to, that won’t break the bank, or take a week to get there.

Athens, Greece.

We have Greek friends that escape to Greece for their summer breaks and it sounds amazing, but Greece is still sunny and warm in October. Our Greek trip in October took us to Marathon, north of Athens – the origin of multi mile race that we all recognise today! Here, we had access to quiet beaches, as warm as a bath to spend afternoons playing in the shallow waters.

We drove in to Athens, which is an interesting experience! Even in October, we had to take plenty of water supplies, don the suncream and find the shade as we climbed to the Pantheon! Culture without the oven heat – October in Athens was a hit!

Canary Islands, Spain.

Given their size and isolation from the mainland, the Canary Islands pack such a punch. These islands draw million of visitors each year and it’s not hard to see why. In October, we were able to get several hours of warm sunshine, to recharge ahead of winter in the UK. Our island of choice this time, was Lanzarote and no trip is ever complete without a trip up Timanfaya. You can smell the amazing food being cooked over the heat of the volcano. For the budget conscious, you can pick up accommodation for a really good price.

Paris, France.

The French Capital is cooler, calmer and much more pleasant for sight seeing at this time of the year. Sure, it’s not rain free but with minimal planning, you can combine inside and outside activities to suit the weather. There are many areas to chose in Paris and we stayed near the Eiffel Tower where we had markets and kids play parks t chose from. It was a locals area, so felt like we were immersed in the French way of life.

Marrakech, Morroco.

Marrakech is an incredible place to go with the kids. The sights, smells and sounds are something that very few people experience closer to home. At this time of the year, the weather means it’s warm enough to sit outside on a Riad (Moroccan house, for accommodation) terrace. Getting out is possible with low risk of rain, but not the oven heat you would get in the summer. We are returning to Marrakech later this year, which is great for our audience, as it means we are in full research mode and planning our trip and capturing information for a detailed guide later in the year.

That last sunshine before a winter can be a haven. The first half term back can be a tire, so something easy, without costing the earth. The Canary Islands have a fantastic mix of all inclusive, to luxury self catering for all types of families and budgets.

A simple 4 hour flight from the UK, what’s not to love.
